Here's one movie overpraised by the critics and the viewers.
Ben Affleck is punching again, this time as playwright-director-leadactor. Ambitious as he is, the movie leaves much to be desired.
This could have been a great movie because:
1. it is adapted from a good story by Chuck Hogan who also wrote "Shutter Island".
2. Ben is back to his familiar territory, his hometown-like Boston, so the visuals were as realistic as stunning.
3. the supporting actors (Rebecca Hall for instance) were nicely singled out and did their part wonderfully. And Jeremy Renner stole the show. No wonder he got an Oscar nomination.
Turns out it falls short of expectation for the following reasons:
小本长大的地方是马萨诸塞州的剑桥。哈佛,剑桥,波士顿(同属大波士顿区),这些都是有浓浓波士顿情结的小本的创作源泉(哈佛的故事酿就了后来携手好哥们小马擒下小金人)。小本是不能耍帅的,否则的结果就是兵败《珍珠港》。还好再后来有一个叫Gone Baby Gone的电影,技惊四座的同时,人们都知道了两个姓Affleck的人,哥哥导电影有一套,弟弟演电影也不比谁差多少。
最近最大的感触是很多好电影都必须是一人身兼编剧导演两职。手里拿着自己写的好本子导出来的水平想烂都难。这对小金人编剧加身的小本来说,真是舍我其谁了。
小本片子的最大特点可能是布局和基调。布下的一个局,往往观者只能看到第一步,看不到第二步。Gone Baby Gone如是,The Town也如是。在迷局性上后者不如前者,但自始至终涌动着一种城市的情绪,人心的情绪,这股暗流翻腾不息。至于基调,灰冷,殷实,活生生又血淋淋。每个人心中都有一个城市,不管你来自哪里,去向何处,这里,它的名字叫波士顿。
最近看了两部电影,一部叫做《城中大盗》,2010年的片子,本.阿弗莱克自编自导自演;另一部《独行杀手 》是1967年的片子,法国影星阿兰德龙出演。
如果要贴标签,两部片子都算是犯罪剧情片,犯罪剧情片不同于警匪片的是,正义与邪恶从来不是电影创作者要表现的内容,它们的重点永远都会放在对犯罪行为和心理的刻画以及最终对人性复杂问题的拷问上,所以这类影片的主角一定是罪犯,当然偶尔会出现警匪CP 的设定,但警察总归是男二号,而且男二号一定得具有高度负责的工作态度
我看的是加长版,在1小时23分钟的时候,道格对吉赛说:人们每天早上醒来做着同样的事情,他们告诉自己有一天要改变生活,但他们从来不付诸行动。(People get up every day,they do the same thing.They tell themself they're gonna change their life one day and they never do.)
然后我就喜欢上了这部电影。
后面的剧情在我眼中更像一部文艺片而不是商业片了,连公路追逐和枪战的镜头都拍的那么四平八稳,或许本阿弗莱克本来就没把重点放在商业上吧。
