In the summer of 1976, when President Jimmy Carter promised to return the government to the people, tensions escalated in a working class community in Philadelphia, where the Black Panthers thrived. When Marcus returned - he left a few years ago - his Homecoming Day was not celebrated with great fanfare. His former sports brothers accused him of indescribable betrayal. Only his best friend's widow Patricia appreciated Marcus' predicament, which united them and paralyzed them. When Patricia's daughter forced two comrades to confront their past, history repeats itself in a dangerous way. Nightfall cleverly considers the complexity of the revolutionary ideology and inner desires of the characters in the play. Bell bottoms, Afros, potluck, and Caddies set the scene as a movie, interweaving political media with memorable soul music, evoking a vivid sense of place and time. The golden glow bathed in the characters' faces seems to express Marcus and Patricia's commitment and elusive struggle for the necessary changes - each in a different way.
