As Lisa is a talking child, Marg views her in the way she hopes Peg will become and seeks guardianship. Remic's character is second only to Matlin, although she is portrayed as a tragic figure, especially when Al refuses to help her obtain Lisa's plan. Peg's deafness is said to be caused by spinal meningitis in a child. Louisa Burns Bisono's TV series, told by Louisa and Tom Bisono, portrays Remic as a textbook like mother who, due to guilt and self hatred, cannot love her daughter. In an unforgettable scene, Peg angrily signaled to Mag to leave because she refused to learn sign language, even though she had already learned to speak for her mother. The treatment used Tennessee Williams' play "The Glass Zoo" to help Peg overcome her sadness, while also helping Marg "lose a unicorn" and embrace her daughter. Although Peg's choice to appear in this drama may seem a strange choice for sad people, it is even more noteworthy that Matrin is too charming to be believed to play Laura. The Bisono family includes Michael O'Keefe, who plays Dan, Peg's late husband's best friend and director of the Actors Theatre for the Deaf, providing Peg with a new romantic interest. Thankfully, she condemns Peg's expression of love. Although his views may be influenced by 'infatuation', Dan told Peg that being different is better than being normal because normal people are 'common' like weeds. This philosophy reads like Nietzsche's, at the level where artists are not restricted by common moral principles. Director Karen Arthur either asked the signers to speak or translated and signed for the audience, although in one scene, the sound of crashing waves drowned out the conversation between Dan and Peg. She also gave Matlin some beautiful moments. One was when she heard the news of her husband's death, she screamed in horror, and the other was when she chased Remick down a step and bumped into her.
